The fan guide to Budapest.
The fan guide to Budapest.
Budapest is one of Europe's most visited and photogenic cities. As Audi Revolut F1® Team gets to work trackside, here's what fans can see and do across the city on Hungarian Grand Prix weekend.
Audi Revolut F1® Team is in Budapest for the final round before Formula 1®'s summer shutdown. The Hungarian Grand Prix is one of the best-attended events on the F1® calendar, drawing 300,000 fans over the race weekend from across Europe and beyond.
The Hungaroring sits just 20km north-east of Budapest's city centre, and many fans travelling in for the Grand Prix extend their stay to explore one of Europe's finest capitals.

Go behind the scenes of Formula 1®.
Start the weekend with a glimpse behind the scenes of the world's fastest sport. More fans than ever spend four days trackside on Grand Prix weekend, with some circuits opening their gates on the Thursday before the competitive action begins.
There's no on-track running that day, aside from tests for the Safety and Medical Cars, but the Hungarian Grand Prix's popular Pit Lane Walk takes place on Thursday afternoon. It's a rare chance to get close to the action and watch Audi Revolut F1® Team set up its garage for the weekend – keep an eye out, and you might spot a driver or two.

Hidden motorsport history.
The first Grand Prix, held in France in 1906, was won by Hungarian driver Ferenc Szisz. A sculpture at the entrance to the Hungaroring marks the achievement. Budapest's city centre holds more motorsport history than most visitors realise. Népliget, also known as People's Park, is the largest green space in the city and home to both a laser theatre and Budapest's biggest nightclub. Ninety years ago, in 1936, it hosted the very first Hungarian Grand Prix. Racing continued there as recently as 1970, and organisers even planned a return to Népliget in 1984 before choosing to build a permanent track outside the city instead.
Relax in thermal baths.
Thermal baths date back to the Ottoman Empire and remain part of Budapest's identity – July's warm weather makes this the ideal time to experience the tradition. Budapest counts over a hundred natural thermal springs, making it one of the world's great spa cities. A soak can be the perfect way to escape the bustle of the city, or unwind after a busy day trackside at the Hungaroring. Széchenyi Thermal Bath, in City Park, is the largest medicinal bath in Europe, while Rudas Baths pairs centuries-old Turkish architecture with rooftop pools overlooking the Danube.

Budapest's historic centre.
The Buda Castle district holds some of Budapest's oldest and most interesting architecture. Cobbled streets, cafes and museums fill this UNESCO World Heritage Site, with Buda Castle itself at its centre – it has overlooked the city for more than 750 years and now houses the Hungarian National Gallery and Budapest History Museum. A short walk away stands the Fisherman's Bastion, or Halászbástya, built at the end of the 19th century. Its fairytale-like lookout towers offer some of the best views across the city's skyline.

Sunsets on the Danube.
Guided bus and walking tours cover most of Budapest, and a Budapest Card adds free public transport plus discounted entry to attractions and museums.
A river cruise remains one of the best ways to see the city. The Danube, Europe's second-longest river, splits Budapest into its two halves, Buda and Pest. An evening cruise shows off the city's architecture at its most atmospheric, including the Parliament Building – one of the most photographed buildings on the continent.
Eating like the locals.
Eating like a local is part of any Hungarian Grand Prix visit. Goulash, the rich beef soup seasoned with paprika and served with fresh bread, is one of Hungary's national dishes and easy to find across the city centre.
On the move, lángos – deep-fried dough topped with sour cream, cheese or garlic butter – makes for popular street food, while chimney cake, or kürtőskalács, is a firm favourite among visitors.
