Welcome to the Madring.

Audi Revolut F1® Team races on new territory this weekend as Formula 1® makes its first visit to the Madring for the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix.

Rounding out the final double-header of the European season, Audi Revolut F1® Team travels 1,600km south-west from Monza to Madrid for the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix. After 35 years at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, the Spanish Grand Prix has a new home this year. F1® makes a welcome return to Madrid, having last raced here in 1981. Back then, it was Gilles Villeneuve who won the Spanish Grand Prix on the last of Circuito de Jarama’s nine appearances on the F1® calendar. While Jarama was located 30km north of the city, the brand new Madring takes us right into the heart of the Spanish capital.

What to expect at the Madring.

The first all-new venue to join the calendar since Las Vegas Strip Circuit in 2023, the Madring is a hybrid circuit that combines existing permanent roads with newly-built sections of track. Set out around the IFEMA Madrid exhibition centre, the 22-turn, 5.4km track features tight corners, high-speed sections, tunnels and a banked turn unlike anything else on the calendar.

Taking a similar feel to other street circuits like Jeddah Corniche Circuit, Marina Bay Street Circuit and even Spain’s last street track in Valencia, the Madring is essentially divided into two clear sections: a southern half which routes on roads around the exhibition halls, and a northern half which features the custom-built high-speed sections and elevation changes.

La Monumental: The Madring’s showpiece.

Turn 12 presents a unique challenge on the Formula 1® calendar – and it is one that could soon sit alongside iconic sections of track on the list of the sport's most impressive corners. Known as La Monumental, this is the longest banked corner that F1® will race on. Sustaining significant G-forces for around five seconds, La Monumental will test the drivers, the cars and the tyres in a way unseen anywhere else.

A standout feature of the track, the 180-degree corner is 550 metres long and features banking with a 24% gradient. It will be approached at high speed, with entry speeds of up to 200 km/h. Getting this turn right could prove highly useful for setting up overtakes into the following left-hand turn. It’s set to be one of the best viewing spots for fans trackside at the Madring this weekend, with a stadium-like atmosphere where grandstands and hospitality suites line both the inside and the outside of the banked section.

Freddie Slaters Formula 3® car racing on track at Madring circuit

Freddie’s F3 finale.

The 2026 Spanish Grand Prix marks a major milestone for the Audi Development Driver Programme, as Freddie Slater enters the final round of the F3 season with a chance of sealing the title. There were mixed fortunes for Freddie in Monza. After continuing his record of scoring podium finishes at every race weekend this year with the runner-up spot in the Sprint Race, Freddie started from pole position for the Feature Race. His race ended with a disappointing retirement due to a mechanical issue, preventing him from adding more points to his championship tally.

The final F3 race weekend of the year will feature three races: a Sprint and Feature Race on Saturday, followed by a final Feature Race on Sunday morning. Freddie leads the standings by 15 points and we'll be cheering him all the way to the finish line in Madrid.

Audi R26 racing on track at Monza

A new challenge awaits.

Audi Revolut F1® Team's four-race scoring streak may have come to an end at Monza, but it did so only by fine margins. Gabi and Nico finished 11th and 12th on track – only a few seconds away from the points-paying positions. Close margins are proving to make all the difference in 2026, with Gabi having missed out on a spot in Q3 at the Italian Grand Prix by only one thousandth of a second. Set-up work across the three practice sessions, as the team learns about the Audi R26's behaviour on this brand new circuit, could be vital in securing the best possible result come Sunday at the Spanish Grand Prix. With no previous data from which to draw, every team has faced a similar challenge in preparing for F1®'s first venture to the Madring. For Audi Revolut F1® Team, this is a test of adaptability – and a chance to make its mark on a brand new chapter in Formula 1® history.

“Madrid will be a new challenge for everyone... "

Allan McNish

"... and there is always an added element of the unknown when we arrive at a circuit for the first time. It means we will need to be effective in every practice session and build up as best as we can ahead of qualifying and the race, making the most of the preparation work we have done in the sim and at HQ. It is the final European race of the season before we head back overseas, so we want to finish this part of the calendar on a strong note and deliver another solid performance into the top ten.”

"There's always something exciting about arriving at a brand-new circuit."

Nico Hulkenberg

"Nobody really knows what to expect until the cars hit the track, so it's one of those weekends where you have to learn and adapt very quickly. Overall, we've been moving in the right direction over the last few races and, if we can get on top of things early, hopefully we can put ourselves in a good position to finish the European part of the season on a positive note."

Gabriel Bortoleto

“I’m looking forward to the race in Madrid."

Gabriel Bortoleto

"I’ve been preparing for it in the simulator, and now I’m curious to experience it for real. A new circuit is always an exciting challenge, because everyone starts from a similar position and we’ll be learning new things as we go through the weekend. We were better than we expected in Monza in terms of performance, which was encouraging, and hopefully Madrid will give us a chance to fight for something more. It’s the last race in Europe this year, so it would be nice to finish this run with a strong result.”

Audi Revolut F1® Team will run its first laps in a brand-new venue, as the Madring circuit makes its debut on the calendar as the host of the Spanish Grand Prix. The weekend marks the second leg of the Monza-Madrid back-to-back and brings the European chapter of the season to a close before the championship heads back overseas. After narrowly missing out on points in Monza, the team will look to make the most of the opportunities presented by a track that is completely new for everyone on the grid.

Share the excitement.
