Every corner matters.

With just ten turns and lap times of little more than a minute, the smallest margins mean Spielberg demands precision at every corner.

The eighth round of the 2026 Formula 1® season sees Audi Revolut F1® Team head to the Styrian mountains for the Austrian Grand Prix. One of the fastest circuits on the calendar, Spielberg has developed a reputation for producing hectic qualifying sessions, strategic opportunities and results determined by fine margins.
This will be the team’s first appearance at a track which has enjoyed a successful revival, where 300,000 fans gather over race weekend annually, many of whom make the most of the early summer weather and camp next to the track.
Formerly known as the Österreichring, the circuit has evolved with the countryside over the six decades since making its debut on the schedule and now, the 2026 Austrian Grand Prix marks the 40th F1® appearance in total for Spielberg, placing it among the top ten most frequently visited circuits in World Championship history.

Short lap times, high risk.

The Red Bull Ring can be a deceptively difficult track to master. Last year’s pole position lap time was completed in just under 64 seconds, making Spielberg the quickest lap time on the current Formula 1 calendar – a characteristic which rewards precision from the very first laps in practice through to the all-important qualifying laps.
Despite its short lap time, the Austrian venue ranks only fifth in the list of shortest circuits by length on this year’s schedule. Instead, its combination of fast straights and flowing corners results in one of the highest average speeds of any track that F1 visits, being one of only a handful where the average exceeds 240km/h.
Those characteristics can prove decisive over a race weekend. The Audi R26 has shown encouraging straight line speed in recent weeks, with Gabi and Nico having topped the speed chart in three of the seven race weekends to date this season. Around one of Formula 1’s fastest circuits, that characteristic could prove valuable.

No margin for Error.

Saturday’s qualifying session can be one of the most hectic of the season. On a relatively short circuit, finding a gap in traffic becomes crucial – especially in Q1, where 22 cars will share just 4.326km of asphalt. In an ideal world, with every car circulating, there will be a gap of under 200 metres, or under three seconds, between each car. But, as we so often see, things rarely work out ideally with so many cars on track. Communication between the pit wall and the drivers will be vital.

Fine margins really matter in Spielberg. A single tenth can make all the difference at the Red Bull Ring. Those small margins are amplified further by strict track limits and unforgiving gravel traps, which have become a defining feature of race weekends in Austria in recent years.

Spielberg’s unique features.

Situated in the Styrian mountains, there’s a massive 60 metres of elevation between the track’s highest and lowest points – one of the biggest elevation changes all season.

At 700 metres above sea level, Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City and Interlagos in São Paulo are the only circuits on the calendar which sit at higher altitudes.

There are just ten corners at the Red Bull Ring – but uphill hairpins, downhill braking zones and unforgiving track limits make Spielberg a track which rewards precision and punishes mistakes.

The distinctive incline of Turn 3 is a key overtaking point. The unusually profiled corner has been the scene of race-defining drama on numerous occasions.

The undercut can be powerful here. Two-stop strategies have been the order of the day in recent years and ample overtaking opportunities help facilitate alternative approaches.

All to play for in Austria.

Nico and Gabi return to Spielberg with fond memories from last year, where Nico finished ninth despite starting from the back of the grid, while Gabi recorded both the first Q3 appearance and first points finish of his Formula 1 career with an eighth place result.

After a series of encouraging performances on the fringes of the points-paying positions, the Austrian Grand Prix provides another test for Audi Revolut F1® Team as the Audi R26 gets to grips with Spielberg’s demands.

Share the excitement.
