Four shifts shaping the Audi R26.

Smaller and lighter

Cars become smaller, lighter and more agile. The R26 reflects this shift with a wheelbase reduced by approx. 200 mm, a width cut by 100 mm and a minimum weight reduced by approx. 30 kg. Less size and less mass help sharpen handling and support closer racing.

Active aero

Active aerodynamics replace the familiar DRS logic. The R26 uses adjustable front and rear wings to change its aerodynamic profile in real time. X Mode reduces drag on the straights, while Z Mode increases downforce through corners, helping the car balance speed, grip and efficiency across the lap.

Rebalanced power

The 1.6 litre turbo V6 remains, but the power unit changes significantly. The 2026 setup is designed around a roughly 50/50 split between combustion and electric power, with much higher electrical output than before. Performance becomes less about peak power alone and more about smart energy delivery.

From 2026, all Formula 1 cars run on fully sustainable fuel. For the R26, fuel chemistry becomes a key performance battleground. bp Ultimate Racing Fuel is co developed with Audi to meet FIA sustainability requirements while maximizing performance, efficiency and consistency under race conditions.
